COURSE 2: UNDERSTANDING DOMESTIC DYNAMICS

Power, Conflict, Communication & Resolution

Welcome to Understanding Domestic Dynamics, part of the Decoding Relationships series and The Emotional Decoding Framework™, developed by Suzette M. Lindo.

Conflict is a normal part of relationships. But there is an important difference between disagreement, unhealthy conflict, and patterns involving power, control, intimidation, or coercion.

This three-part course helps you understand those differences while examining how conflict develops, how communication patterns can escalate it, and how your own conflict style may influence what happens next.

Rather than simply asking, “Who is right?” or “Who started it?”, you will learn to look beneath the surface and ask:

What pattern am I seeing? What may be driving it? What impact is it having? And what can I do differently with what I now understand?

What You'll Learn

Lesson 1 — Redefining Domestic Violence: Power, Control & Impact
Explore the difference between ordinary relationship conflict and patterns involving power and control. Learn to recognize behaviors that can move a relationship beyond disagreement into unhealthy or potentially abusive dynamics.

Lesson 2 — Fighting Fair: Conflict Secrets & Breaking Destructive Loops
Learn practical principles for navigating disagreements without turning your partner into the enemy. We examine communication, listening, accusations, emotional reactions, healthy time-outs, the silent treatment, staying focused on the issue, and moving conversations toward resolution.

Lesson 3 — Constructive & Destructive Conflict Styles
Discover the different approaches people bring into conflict—including competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding, and accommodating. You'll learn how to recognize your own patterns, distinguish constructive from destructive conflict, and use a practical process for moving disagreements toward resolution.

The Emotional Decoding Framework™

Throughout the course, you'll learn to apply four principles:

RECOGNIZE — What pattern is happening?
DECODE — What may be driving it?
UNDERSTAND — What impact is it having?
CHOOSE — What will I do with what I now know?

The goal isn't to diagnose or label another person.

It's to help you develop the awareness to recognize relationship dynamics more clearly, communicate more intentionally, establish healthier boundaries, and make more informed decisions about your relationships.

Knowledge gives you choices. What you do with what you know is where change begins.
